Resume or Resign: Charly Boy, Adeyanju, Others Commence Protest Against Buhari as He Surpasses 90 Days
Concerned Nigerians, Our Mumu Don Do, and other social campaign groups, have commenced ‘Resume or Resign’ protest against President Buhari in Abuja.
Legendary Nigerian singer and social crusader, Charles Oputa a.k.a Charly Boy, and the convener of Concerned Nigerians, Adeyanju Deji, have on Monday morning, staged a massive peace protest tagged, "Our Mumu Don Do", in the federal capital Abuja.
The activists who said that President Muhamamdu Buhari, has so far, surpassed 90-days on medical vacation in London, are calling on him to return and resume his duties or resign and stop spending tax payers money while paying for his medical bills.
Adeyanju speaking at the rally
The convener, Deji Adeyanju noted that it regretted the failure of the leadership of the National Assembly to launch an investigation or set up a panel to look into the true status of the President Buhari’s health, adding the group believes the legislators have been compromised and are working with an infamous cabal in the executive branch against the Nigerian people.
Adeyanju explained that the leadership of the National Assembly must choose between the Nigerian people and the cabal. “90 days is too long for a president to be away from his country without any explanation to the people that voted him into office.
Charly Boy speaking at the rally
The group insisted that if Buhari has become incapacitated, he should do the honorable thing and resign because he cannot continue to hold the country to ransom noting that a group of few people in the government have taken the advantage of the president’s ill health to loot the treasury with impunity.
“We hereby demand that the National Assembly invoke Section 144 sub Section 4 of the Nigerian Constitution and direct the setting up of a medical panel in conjunction with the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to ascertain whether the President is incapacitated,” it stated.
As at the time of filing this reports, the protesters have occupied the popular Unity Fountain in Abuja and speaking to news reporters and international journalists while calling on the president’s resignation.
